Nick Pearson

Website designer & front-end developer

About

I am a website designer & front-end developer with an eye for detail and a passion for my craft.

I believe in clean-cut, clear and useable design built on web standards and industry best practices. I aim to deliver solutions that are as effective as they are attractive.

Experience

Since early 2012 I have been part of Blue Shark Design in Newcastle, working as a website designer/front-end developer for small and medium sized businesses with a strong focus on WordPress.
2012
From spring 2008 I worked at The Cybermill near York, as a website designer/front-end developer and logo designer. Most projects I have worked on have been developed using the company's own CMS or WordPress.
2008
Prior to 2008, I spent most of my time learning my trade and working on a freelance basis as a website/graphic designer in the UK and in Portugal.
2004
After finishing my university course in computer science in 1999 I worked as a software developer focusing mainly on Cobol and 4GL/4JS for Cogestib (now owned by Sage) and subsequently Delta Informatique (now owned by Sopra Group), both in Tours, France.

I am proficient in creating well formed, semantic HTML and CSS as well as adding effects and functionality with JavaScript/jQuery. On the back end, I am well versed in WordPress theming/customisation and have experience building applications from the ground up in PHP and MySQL.

Photoshop is my tool of choice when it comes to image processing and mockups but I am also familiar with Illustrator and InDesign.

I have a good understanding of SEO and other website related technologies including the DNS and MySQL.

Personal

Having grown up in France I am fully bilingual and since then have also lived in the UK and in Portugal. I currently live in the market town of Pickering, on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors.

Outside office hours I enjoy working on my own digital artwork, riding my mountain bike, reading and cooking.
